Tburu-Bar + Grill, Singapore

Tburu Bar & Grill-Sushi Restaurant

23 April 2015

When you visit Singapore on your own dime you have to be careful about where you eat. Because you can spend a lot and get a little or spend a little and get a lot.

Tburu represents the results of my quest for the best value Omakase Set in Singapore. They have an opening promotion with an Omakase Set menu for $50 Singapore dollars!!!

Located in Orchard Gateway on the 5th floor above Crate & Barrel.

The restaurant has a clean Japanese inspired look using a lot of timber and natural stone...etc.. I am here to eat…

Sake.. choose your glass

Lobster Salad

Chawanmushi with Truffle Oil (savoury egg custard)

Iberico Pork Belly

Yakitori (Chicken, Pork, Whitefish, Okra)

Sushi Moriawase

Itadakimasu!

The verdict:

I still maintain that Tburu currently represents the best value Omakase Set menu in Singapore! You can find better Japanese restaurants in Singapore but it may not represent this great value for money. Giddy-up, get there while their Omakase promotion lasts!

Common Man Coffee Roasters- Robertson Quay, Singapore

21 April 2014

World Coffee-holics beware this is Singapore's hottest coffee spot...

Its been open for over a year and I have been dying to visit. On recent trip to Singapore I finally got the chance to sneak away for a cup or well … three.  And I found myself waking up earlier each day of my trip to get my fix. By my last day I even arrived before they opened so had to trek back to my hotel and return later.

Common Man Roasters is located on the quiet end of Robertson Quay, near M Social Hotel. The team was friendly and you can feel their passion for coffee as soon as you walk into the place.

The Pour Over

They were even filming their own video of how to do a pour-over and you could sense their love for their trade.

Each shot of coffee is weighed based on the specific blend or bean on an electronic scale immediately after grinding to ensure a consistent dose.

The Weigh in..

Not an Old School scale!

I chose the Ardi Sadama blend from Ehtiopia which was fantastic!

Under Pressure...

The barista also monitors the water temperature, pressure and time to ensure the perfect cup…

the end result ...

...a great coffee! They also served each cup with a shot glass and small dose of sparkling water to cleanse your palette. A nice touch!
