Down & Dirty :Hiap Joo Bakery, Johor Bahru- Malaysia

Across from the famous Kin Hua Coffee shop is Hiap Joo another must visit place in Johor Bahru. There is always a queue so chill have your breakfast or a cup of coffee at Kin Hua first.  The good news is the queue moves fairly quick, it really only slows down because of tourists like me who like to take photos of silly stuff- like a stack of wood.  But its well worth the wait, the banana bread and coconut bread are a winners. They still use wood to fire the ovens like a good old school bakery should. Good to see they are burning recycled wood.

The queue that never seems to go away..

Stacked wood looks recycled? No one would cut it like this for burning?

The oven complete with soot and smoke!

Coconut bread.

Banana bread- this is well worth the wait banana bread is light yet the cake remains moist and you can smell the bananas(not kidding!)

Pizza Morena, Makati Philippines

Pizza Morena has been around since 2012, serving their humble pie at Salcedo Saturday Market and Legaspi Sunday Market.

Very foolishly, I have been ignoring this stall for over 2 years because I have often been disappointed by many a pizzeria around the metropolis.

After a friend swore to me that their pizza was worth a try, I decided to give it a go.

All their pizzas were 10 inches in diameter and they had half a dozen or so types of pizza available on that day.

Chorizo Pizza

I chose one of their most popular, their Chorizo Pizza,  this was a "bianca" or white pizza(no tomato sauce) but was so deliciously good I did not even realise it until I had finished the entire box. :)

It comes topped with home-made chorizo, organic arugula, roasted bell peppers and lotsa mozza!

I am kicking myself for not having tried their pizza earlier.

I will be back for more!

Rodic's Diner , Legaspi Village, Makati, Philippines

All day breakfast in the village...

It's on like donkey kong...

For the uninitiated there is only one thing, (I repeat...1 thing) you will order here and that is the TAP-SI-LOG.

Tapsilog is a coined term for

Tapa: a filipino style cured beef

Sinangag: garlic and salt fried rice

Itlog: fried eggs

Note: they serve a shredded tapa version at Rodic's.

This filipino all-day-breakfast staple is available Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 8:00PM. If you have a craving for this on weekends try the Salcedo Market on Saturdays and the Legaspi Sunday Market.

Avoid the lunch rush from 12:00PM to 1:00PM if you want a seat or are not prepared to wait.

Rodic's Diner is located on Salcedo Street Legaspi Village
